Best
Vacuum, Inc. has launched a new ad campaign featuring the work of noted
comic book artist Alex Wald. The Internet and Lincoln Park Chicago
retailer's first ad in the series promotes the Miele Vacuum Cat & Dog
canister vacuum, with a humorous take on canine domesticity and the
problems of cleaning up pet hair.
"We were looking to do something different with our ads," said Paul Teven,
Best Vacuum president. "We wanted something that would set us apart from
other retailers, so when the opportunity to use Alex Wald as both creative
director and artist came up, we grabbed it."
The ad will appear first in Angel Tales, the magazine of PAWS Chicago (Pets
Are Worth Saving), the leading no-kill animal welfare organization in the
Midwest. Plans call for the ad to run additional Chicago and
Midwest-oriented publications, as part of a series featuring the artwork of
Alex Wald.
Wald studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received a
Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. He curated first-of-their-kind
exhibitions in New York and Chicago on robot toys and the culture of
Godzilla. His love of monsters, cinema and pulp fiction drew him inevitably
into the comic book field.
As art director for Chicago's First Comics, Wald art directed Shatter, the
first comic drawn on computer and helped adapt the Japanese manga classic
Lone Wolf and Cub for the US market. After the demise of First Comics he
returned to freelancing in illustration and comic books and received a 2008
Eisner Award nomination for Best Colorist (Shaolin Cowboy). Concept and
production art for motion picture projects include "The Double Life of Moe
Berg," and "Eiji Tsuburaya -- the God of Monsters."
As an illustrator, Wald has worked for a diverse array of magazines, from
Nickelodeon to Playboy. His work for various cult garage bands brought him
to the attention of the producer of "Ultraman," Japan's most popular TV
superhero. Wald's "Ultraman" work has been made into toys for the Asian
market and even a line of bakery goods.
Selling online at BestVacuum.com and from its storefront in Chicago's
Lincoln Park, Best Vacuum specializes in high quality HEPA vacuums and air purifiers for home
and business. In addition to Miele, the company offers Dyson, Sebo,
Nacecare, Nilfisk, NSS and ProCare vacuums. Air purifier lines include
Blueair, IQAir, Austin Air and Venta-Airwasher.
Now in its 25th year of serving the Chicago area, Best Vacuum was one of
the first vacuum cleaner retailers to sell on the Internet. The initial
Web site, launched in 1995, was relatively modest, featuring just Miele
vacuums and Austin Air purifiers. Over the years, product offerings have
expanded, first with additional vacuum cleaner and air purifier brands and
then other home cleaning and comfort products, ranging from steam cleaners
and sweepers to heaters, humidifiers, air conditioners, and more.
