If you have hardwood floors, you know how dirty they can get – and how quickly, especially if you have two adults, a teenage boy, and a cat at home like I do. Every day brings more tracked-in dirt, rock salt stains, spills, and those weird grimy splotches under the dishwasher (seriously, what is that?). If you’re using a mop and bucket, it’s hard to find the time and patience to keep your floors clean and looking good.
Thankfully, there’s Haan. Haan has developed a wide range of lightweight steam cleaners that use regular tap water to clean and sanitize your floors. The superheated, 212° steam jetting from the vacuum head kills bacteria, loosens hard stains, and can even eliminate odors ingrained in your carpet and upholstery – all without any harsh chemicals! Three of the newest Haan models are now available at Best Vacuum, and whether it’s at home or here in our showroom, I can honestly say that these are the best steam cleaners I’ve used. Take a look, and see which one is right for you.
First up is the Haan SI-40, called the “Haan Agile.” They’re bragging a little bit with the name: this is the first series of Haan steamers that features a swivel-head, making it much easier to get around corners, behind the toilet, and around furniture. In order to make sure the Haan SI-40 could stand on its own (at only 5.5 lbs.), Haan needed to reinforce the swivel-neck with a spring system. So it doesn’t twist and twirl as smoothly as I’d like. But if that’s the way to keep it lightweight and sturdy, who am I to complain?
In all honesty, this is a basic, reliable, efficient machine. The 12 oz. water tank heats up in about 20 seconds, and gives you a full 25 minutes of steam. I’ve never had to refill the water tank while cleaning!
The next step up is the Haan SI-60, called the “Haan Select.” What makes this one special? It’s functionally the same as the Haan SI-40. Same tank size, same weight, etc. But it’s the only Haan steamer with adjustable output settings: high, and low. At first glance, it seems unnecessary. But if you have an eclectic mix of hard floor types, this machine will really help you take care of them. You have the low setting for more delicate surfaces like hardwood and laminate. Then you have the high setting for harder surfaces that need a little more “tough love,” like stone and tile. And when you have one bathroom for three people, that “high” setting comes in real handy. Believe me.
